View from Ireland on the media and the Papal election
by Damian and Philomena Walsh (CUT Coordinators Ireland)
There seem to be a strange blindness, a complete unwillingness on the part of secular journalists to understand that the dogmas of the Catholic Church cannot be changed to suit a whim or the ephemeral fashions of modern secular society. BBC reporter Jeremy Bowen's sweeping statement “there will be big changes around here” at St Peter's, during the papal election, only goes to show the cynicism and the secular mind-set of some journalists. Perhaps Mr Bowen should reserve his comments for his own employers!
RTE ratings on the slide
Damian Walsh, the Irish CUT Coordinator, has been monitoring the fall-off of viewers and listeners to RTE TV and Radio. Like the BBC, RTE is funded by a compulsory licence fee. Can the BBC and RTE justify this fee with so many people turning those stations off?
The BBC requested to stop broadcasting into Ireland.
